Where Is The Only Mangrove Forest In The World That Has Tigers?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The Sunderbans Tiger Reserve in India has the only mangrove forest in which tigers make their home. The reserve as a whole supports more tigers than any other in India. The reserve has great ecological importance as the mangrove forest protects other parts of India from the damaging effects of cyclones. Other threatened animals such as the estuarine crocodile and the olive ridley sea turtle are also protected in this rich habitat.

The mangroves – trees that live with their roots in water and have visible large branching roots just above the water for aeration grow well in the tropical estuaries in the park. The reserve is in the delta of the massive River Ganges and it has low islets, estuarine swampland and none of the land is more than a few metres above sea level. If global warming predictions hold true and the sea level rises, this is an area that would be in great danger of submerging under the sea, losing its store of rare wildlife.
