What Does JPEG Stand For?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

JPEG is the abbreviation for Joint Photographic Experts Group. It is the original name of the committee that developed the standard. It is a colour image compression technique. It can reduce the size of the file by about 5% of its original size.

JPEG works only in case of static images. It works well in case of photographs, naturalistic artwork and similar material but not well on text, cartoons and line drawings. To handle motion images there is another standard called MPEG.
