A movement led by the students in 1960 in South Korea, who protested electoral corruption of Syngman Rhee's liberal party, is known as the April 19th movement, or is better known as April 19th revolution.

The determination of Syngman Rhee to see Yi Gibung as the independent vise president, led him running against Chang Myon, former ambassador to the United States, when the Korean War was on, during the elections of 1960. His determination led to good results when on 15th march elections, Yi Gibung, won the elections with an exceptionally wide range. The result clearly proved that the votes were not genuine, and this led to the students feeling cheated that in turn resulted in a revolution. Later, President Rhee gave up his position, and Prime Minister Yi Gibung chose to commit suicide, not even sparing his family.
