How Do I Setup My Modem To Work In Ukraine?

Thinkpad A31, WinXP-sp2. Lucent Technologies soft modem. When I go to control panel|modems|properties|advanced|select country -- there is no option to select Ukraine! What can I do? My old stinkpad390x had Ukraine as option and worked fine there. Their phone system, for the most part, is like a 1950's USA technology using pulse dialing. But just exactly what is happening when you select the country in the windows setup dialogue is a mystery to me. First off, is this a windows xp issue, or is it a thinkpad issue? Please help, this absolutely MUST work.

I think there is some problem of windows copy installed on your computer or the properties of your lucent modem. It is not a thinkpad issue. I am using Windows XP SP2 on my computer. I just went to control panel and find phone and modem options. I have found Ukraine in the list.

I suggest you to go to phone and modem options and select your country from there. It has all the countries listed there. Still, if you find any problem then call your ISP to get the correct settings.

Well, this at least gets me pointed in the right direction. Yes, "phone and modem options" IS where i was. No Ukraine in that drop down list. I wonder if the information is kept in some .inf file somewhere? BTW, you didn't mention if your thinkpad uses a Lucent soft modem or something else. I doubt my usa based isp is gonna know about (or even care about helping ) to set up a modem outside their service area, but hey, these people are knowledgeable and it is indeed worth a try. Thanks for your answer.

Well, just in case anyone is reading this and wants to know the answer -- ureka, i have found it. i suspected the problem lied in an inf file. Looking on my puter, I found reference to a file called MDMLTSFT.INF. Which I did not have on my puter and figured that I needed it. Got on internet and easily located that file for download. BUT WAIT. That wasn't the problem -- but it just got me thinking - thinking about the THINKPAD. It needs it's own special drivers. I had already installed the special video and sound drivers, but never did get the modem driver. so I went to the ibm support site, downloaded and installed the modem driver for A31, and voila, now Ukraine appears as an option, plus some other modem problems were resolved.
