Why Do The Healthy People Always Say "don't Eat The Skin On The Chicken"?

Of course, I seem to love things that are bad for me. Each time I read anything on nutrition, the rule seems to be, eat only baked chicken and NO SKIN, the skin is my favorite part. What is it that is so bad about chicken skin?

It's because the cholesterol and fat levels are very high in the skin. I eat it anyway. I can't really stand chicken without the skin.

Totally agree with all the answers above.

Try baking or roasting your chicken with the skin and then take it off before eating.  You get most of the flavoring but skip the fat.

It may take some getting used to but in the long run it is much better for you and your health.

All the fat is in the skin.. Actually affixed just under the skin.. Lol. It's totally NOT fair that the tastiest part of the chicken is the part that's bad for you. :)

We all love the bad stuff don't we?  I long for the day that it is discovered salads are high in fat and calories and cheesecake is healthy and nutritious.  But the chicken skin, turkey, duck too, contains alot of the fat.  Taking the skin off really reduces the calories and fat.  AN occasionaly piece of chicken with the skin on is ok, but not too often.  I make oven fried chicken breasts- but the boneless skinless breasts, dip them in melted margarine, roll in crushed corn flakes seasoned with salt pepper etc, place in a pan sprayed with Pam and drizzle with remaining melted marg.  Bake til done- around 45 min I have found- do hot turn the chicken while baking.  This is really pretty good and can be done with pork chops too.

Tiggersmom is right as usual.  I actually don't like chicken.  If I eat it, it can not be on the Bone and have no fat.  Just white meat.  No dark meat.  I do however, like the skin some times, like the chicken you can buy at KFC.  Usually, I will only eat chicken sandwiches though not chicken on a bone.  I have issues I know.

Because the skin of chicken are rich in cholesterol which is bad to our health. Anyway, do you want to know the least safe foods from a contamination perspective?
