I just fed them Meow Mix, softened at first, and then went right to hard Meow Mix. My cats are very healthy, in fact the vet praises me for their excellent health. I always keep food and water out for them.
I also let them outside to get their exercise, and they eat grass, this helps the hairball problem, along with brushing them and keeping the shedding to a minimum.
As for the toys, they love to chase things, and roll around with them. You should get some toy mice, with catnip in them, feathers are great if you're going to interact with them. I use to take a long piece of yarn and wrap some foil tightly into a ball at the end and they love to chase and catch this.
It helps in the development of their natural hunting skills, the more they have, the better they are at it. They need these skills to survive, so play time is important for them. Hope this helps, enjoy them, they're fun to have around, and they are perceptive to your moods, they'll comfort you at times too. Good luck.
If it's still a baby, you can feed it mother cats milk that can be bought at Walmart or anywhere almost. If it's old enough, you can give it milk or water and try some soft food.
Some of what Mom was famous for but served differently... A bowl of store brought bovine milk right alongside a dish of prepared balanced name brand small cat, or kitty dry food.
