ISO 9000 is a part of ISO standards for quality management systems. ISO 9000 was made from the British Standards Institution's BS 5750. The standards of ISO 9000 are managed and sustained by ISO and administered by official approval and certification organisations. According to ISO in the year 2004 "Service sector now accounts by far of the highest number of ISO 9001:2000 certificates-about 31% of the total" as given in ISO survey.

ISO 9000 has many similarities with IS0 14000. Both of them affect to how a product is manufactured, regard less of the fact how it is planned. For instance, ISO 216 refers to the dimensions of paper. These sizes have been very strictly planned and cannot be changed. Where as in ISO 9000 and ISO 14000 it is more universal, it refers to the entire process, than specify on a single product.
