After getting first periods, girls can have cycle irregularities during first year of adult life. These problems also include heavy periods because in the start, periods are without ovulation due to hormonal imbalance. When hormone production becomes normal then girls can have normal regular periods. No treatment is recommended at this age. You can also get advice from your doctor.
