How Can I Make New Year’s Day Special?

We do tend to waste this day lying in bed and nursing hangovers. Of course, if you really have got a hangover, that's all you'll want to do anyway. But if you haven't, New Year can be a lovely day.
I'd see it as a chance to do something peaceful, maybe even something healthy! (I don't mean making silly resolutions, rushing off to the gym and then hating yourself because you never want to go again.) Jan 1 can be a great day for a walk if the weather isn't too bad – there's hardly anyone about in the morning, enough shops are closed to make the day feel a bit different, and after nearly a week of overindulging, everybody needs a bit of fresh air. If the weather really is awful, how about a drive? It's just nice to get out.
It's nice to have a special dinner too – nothing elaborate if you're feeling fragile, but just get something tasty and never mind the expense. Save your very best video or DVD for the evening and have a night in.

My family has always made it special by cosing out the holiday season and taking down the decorations left from Christmas, watching movies, maybe going to the park if the weather is good for it (even snow can make a great day at the park) and sitting back contemplating the resolutions and the best way to keep them through the year
