Healthnat is right, why would you want to attack the Water Moccasins?
Water Moccasins do NOT attack people, no matter what the old guys who drink lots of beer when they go fishing might tell you. A snake has absolutely NOTHING to gain by attacking a human, something it cannot even eat! Many people who are afraid of snakes misinterpret every snake behavior they see as "attacks" or "aggression", when they're not. Water Moccasins, like most wild animals, will defend themselves by biting if they themselves are being threatened by a person, whom they perceive as a large predator. They will almost always give warning first, by gaping open their mouths to show the white lining that gave them the other common name, "Cottonmouth". This is like a cat hissing and arching its back; it means "BACK OFF and leave me alone! I'm scared of you!" Many times, the snake that people call a "Water Moccasin" isn't even that species, but a non-venomous Water Snake. Snakes don't have the best eyesight, and if they are startled or panicked, they might move towards a person, in their attempt to escape, and people often misinterpret that as the snake trying to "attack" them.
