Hello I have a Johnson 35hp. And the Gap is .040 for mine I think that is kind of a standard for these size motors mine is a bit older as they get newer gaps get higher on cars anyway if your motor is lacking power at .040 try adjusting in .005 stages but I would say the .040 should do just fine you can not damage the motor so you are safe for that
