In total, The Lord of the Rings trilogy (2001-2003), has won seventeen Oscars, including: Art Direction, Cinematography, Costume Design, Directing, Film Editing, Makeup (twice), Best Music (Score) twice; Best Music (Original Song), Best Picture, Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, Visual Effects (three) and Writing. The Return of the King won eleven of these, The Fellowship of the Ring four and The Two Towers two. The trilogy was nominated for 30 Academy awards altogether over the three years of its release.
