Do The Harry Potter Video Games More Closely Follow The Books Or The Films?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The Harry Potter video games are mixed in the way that they follow both the book and the film. The characters in the game are modelled to resemble the actors that play them in the films, and Hogwarts and its surroundings are made to look the same as in the film.

The dialogue, however, is mostly taken from the book, and scenes from the book that are not included in the films are actually in the games. For example, the PlayStation version of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets included the Deathday Party scene, which was not included in the Chamber of Secrets film.

Also, any scenes in the game that involve the character Peeves the Poltergeist, are taken from the book, as Peeves does not appear at all in the films.

The most recent Harry Potter game, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, followed the film more than the books, as the characters strongly resembled the actors, and even had some actors from the film providing voices for the game, meaning that more dialogue was taken from the film than with previous Harry Potter games.

Harry Potter games also tend to include scenes that are not featured in the book or the film, that are added as sub-tasks for the player i.e. not central to the plot.

Stephen Fry provides narration for the games, just like he does with the UK audio versions of the series.
