On July Fourth, The Second Continental Congress ratified the Declaration of Independence, which officiated the movement to revolt from the United Kingdom, but there are three prior events which are the most well known to really START the who American Revolution.

April 19, 1775, The Cities of Lexington and Concord are taken up in arms by American Militia [known as minuteman, for their speed of being able to get to the field of battle in under a minute to quickly fight the british armies] and the British Army attacks them. This is considered the first official battle of the American Revolution and the "Shot Heard Round' the World"

On December 16, 1773, Colonists also went aboard british merchant ships, dumping tea into the Harbor to revolt the Tea Tax, this was the second of a famous amount of uprisings to British Control

Last but not least was the first considered innocent set of killings in the Revolution, the Boston Massacre took place March 5th 1770 in Boston as well, where Five civillians died, and many others wonded at the hands of british soldiers ordered to fire upon them.

The usage of newsletters and printing spread the news of all of these events like wildfire, pressuring the beginning of the Revolution's officiality in 1776 by the Second Continental Congress
