June 21st is the first day of summer for the Northern Hemisphere. This is the day that the sun's direct rays cross the Tropic of Cancer. Since Paris is in the Northern Hemisphere, this is when summer begins. (Of course, weather doesn't always follow the movement of the sun's direct rays, nor our divisions of the calendar. Sometimes a region gets unseasonal weather no matter what time of year it is.)
