There are following similarities between light and sound waves :
1) They both exhibit behavior that is characteristic of waves flowing in subsequent crests and troughs and having varied frequencies.
2) Both exhibit a Doppler effect. In case of sound waves the wavelengths become shorter as the source of sounds moves towards you and become greater as they move away and can be judged by listening. In case of light sources, those moving towards you exhibit a blue shift and those moving away exhibit a red shift.
