Staph infection is community and hospital acquired. From community it requires skin to skin contact. The bug bite can lead to infection and MRSA are staph and opportunistic bacteria and easily get penetrated in to cuts, wounds and scratched area. I will not advise you to go for swimming because of wound which can be worse in water. Visit a doctor for the treatment of MRSA.

Yes, people can catch it from the person who has it. its like a cold sore, you start with one and then 2,3. Only difference staph is more painful than cold sores. I see no problem swimming with staph, as long as its not too ouzy, meaning blister like.
