Who Is The Patron Saint Of Fathers?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The Patron Saint of fathers is St Joseph, the carpenter, and husband of Mary the Mother of God. He was betrothed to Mary at the time of Christ's birth, travelled to Bethlehem where Mary gave birth, and led the Holy Family into exile in Egypt to avoid King Herod's planned attack on all infant boys in the neighbourhood of Bethlehem.

Joseph was a descendant of King David and is known as the foster-father of Jesus Christ. St Joseph is considered as the second greatest saint behind the Blessed Virgin Mary, because of his humility and his closeness to Jesus. He is said to have died in the presence of Mary and Jesus. Pope Pius IX named him the Patron Saint of the Universal [Catholic] Church. He is also Patron Saint of bursars and procurators, manual workers (especially carpenters), and of all who desire a holy death. St Joseph has two feast days dedicated to him; 19th March and 1 May.
