Threatening Letters From Student Loans That Have Been Consolidated And Therefore Paid...? What Steps Should I Now Take To Resolve This?

I have received a threatening letter (threatening to take wage garnishment and tax refund) about a student loan that i have consolidated over 4 years ago. This loan was paid by the consolidation company in full. I have sent the company the receipt of payment i received from the consolidation company several times and the consolidation company has called them as well. Suddenly, years later i receive this letter from a collection agency saying i went into default on the loan... What steps should i now take to resolve this?

Here's an idea call the loan company where the loan was first made. Next go to NDLS for loans and find that it's paid off. Lastly call your Education department in Washington,DC and let them know what's going on. Also, try to find the paper work and payment stub that shows the amount paid and when. If this fails seek a lawyer and explain to him or her that you paid this loan off.

I did that, i sent them the paperwork and payment receipt from ACS saying it is paid.  Then did not hear from them for years, suddenly this out of no where.

Now when i try to call this collection company i just keep getting a voicemail with no return phone calls...
