To recognize a heart attack is, it is important to know what happens in it. A heart attack is when there is a sudden cutting down of the blood supply to the heart muscle making it unable to carry out its normal function. With a sever heart attack, one of the coronary arteries may become completely blocked by the formation of a blood clot ( known as coronary thrombosis) with sever attack there may be heart failure (cardiac arrest)
What happens in a heart attack? There is a sudden severe pain in the chest, usually central but may radiate to jaw, throat, arms or back.
Indigestion like pain may even be in the back or upper abdomen. Pain variously described as crushing, gripping, vice-like or tightness. Severe chest pains are also symptoms of angina; usually pain ceases after a few minutes if casualty rests. Dizziness or giddiness is another symptom of heart attack. Person suffering from heart attack looks ashen; his lips may change colour and become blue. Profuse sweating is very common is case of heart attack. The pulse of the casualty is rapid, weak and irregular. Breathlessness has been seen in some people.Other symptoms in case of sever attacks include unconsciousness, no breathing and heart beat.

If you suspect a heart attack, it is best to err on the side of caution and call 9-1-1 (or your local emergency number) immediately! It is better to be embarrassed than to be looking up at grass from the wrong side.
The American Red Cross offers excellent classes on CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) and AED or Automatic External Defibrillator use. I recommend that EVERYONE take this training.
At the very least, if you or someone you are with may be experiencing a heart attack and is still conscious, try chewing an aspirin tablet or let it dissolve under the tongue. Be sure there is no allergy to aspirin, of course. Make sure, also, that someone is calling emergency services, and can stand by to direct first responders to the scene. Reassure the victim, try to make them as comfortable as possible, and try to stay calm yourself.
A couple of other things... and there is no way to answer the original question fully, but keep these in mind:
1. If you are alone in a high rise - working late or whatever - and you have called emergency services, try to get down to the main entrance of the building. Otherwise they may have to search the whole building for you!
2. You might try a half teaspoon of cayenne pepper in a glass of water. I know it sounds crazy, but this has been called "back-woods nitroglycerin" since it is a potent vasodilator... meaning it helps open the blood vessels. I actually carry capsules of cayenne in my first aid kit for just this purpose.
3. If you have a cell phone, enter the number of your next of kin or someone you'd want notified in an emergency under the name "ICE." ICE is recognized in many countries as "In Case of Emergency" and first responders will be able to use your phone to get in touch with your loved ones in case you are unconscious. Spread the word about "ICE!"
Finally, keep in mind that every second counts. Don't panic, but get anyone suspected of having a heart attack to the hospital as quickly as possible.
