Collage is one of the most forgiving of mediums. It's fun and easy to make a colourful and pleasing artwork in collage. All it takes is some sturdy white paper or card, (watercolour works well) glue, scissors, a pencil, and an assortment of coloured tissue paper. A T-square is also useful. All are available at art and craft supply stores.
Your sturdy white paper will be the background on which you will glue tissue paper shapes. Use your pencil and the T-square to lightly draw a few rectangular shapes on to the tissue paper. Try to use a variety of sizes and colours of paper. Cut out the shapes and turn them over so that your pencil marks don't show.
Experiment with arranging the pieces of paper on the white paper or card. Try layering the shapes. Because the tissue paper is transluscent, layering two different colours of paper will give you a new colour. For instance, yellow paper layered over blue paper will create a green.
When you are satisfied with your design, glue them in place. Voila! A graphic, modern artwork that will make a great accent for your home. Sign it at the bottom and frame it to hang. A montage of several collage artworks will create a lively and colourful effect.
