What Are The Health Benefits Of Using Poplar?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Poplar contains salicylate precursors, which have the same health benefits as aspirin.  Therefore, poplar makes an excellent analgesic.  The trees with the most resinous buds are usually the most effective for medicinal purposes.

The infusion (tea) or decoction (boil the buds in distilled water for 20 minutes and then strain) will treat sore throats, fevers, headaches, arthritis, and rheumatism.

The closed winter buds of poplar contain an antioxidant, and the tincture of the buds is good to prevent rancidity in homemade unguents.   Also, the aroma of poplar buds clears the nasal passages like menthol, but without the cooling sensation.

Although poplar is not toxic, some people have strong allergic reactions to it, so care must be taken to test before exposure to blends made with this versatile herb.
