This happens to me in the wintertime, or if I've been out in the sun too long.  I use Neutrogena's lip balm -- constantly.  Carry it around with you, and apply it every chance you get, so that the split is kept moisturized.  You should see it start to heal within a few days.  The key is not letting it dry out -- the moisturizer keeps it soft so that the skin can be flexible when you eat or talk, and won't split so much.

I hope that helps you out, and I truly hope it helps solve the problem for you.

I have the same thing.  It's due to your spit.  It's got a lot of acid in it.. Sometime because of to much sugar in your diet.  The acid bothers your lips and causes irritation on the corners of your mouth. Then fungus grows in the moist area.  Fungus and acid irritation can cause small cuts that just get bigger with time.  It's the same type of fungus u get on your feet..  Foot Fungus cream may help a little ( i've used it before on my mouth lol) ,.... But a doctor will be able to give you anti-fungus cream for your mouth.

        Guest,

Did you go to the doctor about your cracked lips and the above is what he said, I mean it makes sense, I drink alot of acid drinks, but I am not sure about having a fungus

I've had this off and on for years, and just forget to mention it to the doctor's, myself... Now, my daughter is having the same problem...  I've been told it's probably either viral, like a canker sore and crops up when you have another viral infection such as cold or flu, or due to acidic digestive tract, or even yeast-related. Sometimes I can get away with only applying Carmex or some such, if I catch it early. Others, my diet has to be played with and Carmex seems only to help, not take care of the problem. The corners of my mouth are now slightly discolored all the time from the scarring, so definately take it to the doctor, find out what it is for sure or you could have it reccur enough to scar, as well! I'm taking my little girl in next week to find out myself... Good luck! =)

Sounds like angular chelitis. I get these frequently, and feel your pain. I haven't found any over the counter applications that work, but my doctor prescribed an anti-fungal cream/ointment that alleviates the pain and heals the wound.

          Hi

sounds like same here.  Its a fungus so try some clotrimazole cream for the fungus (9.00) and some cortizone cream as well... If you mix these two in one tube it requires a prescrip.

Best of luck.. Yes its similar to the foot and jock itch type fungus.... Nothing that is real unusual
