Nearly all steam engines from then on used the features of Rocket engine containing blast pipe, horizontal boiler, non-vertical cylinders and steam dome.
The oldest engine in existence is Puffing Billy by William Hedley which was manufactured in 1813. It was utilized on a coal mine railway until 1862. This train has 2 perpendicular cylinders driving beams which linked to cranks that were cogged to the driving wheels.
