What Were The Venues For All The Cricket World Cups That Have Been Played So Far?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Legend proves that no country who is hosting the Cricket World Cup has managed to win the tournament.  At least statistics tell so.  There is only one exception to this unspoken fiat, nevertheless it remains an unconscious superstition in the minds of cricket fans.

The first, second and third World Cups were hosted by England, which were won by West Indies on the first and second instances and won by India the third time.  As for the fourth time in 1987, the World Cup was held in the subcontinent hosted jointly by Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka.  This time Australia emerged as the ultimate winners.  In 1992, the hosts for the mega-tournament were defending champions Australia and New Zealand, which eventually Pakistan won.  Four years followed and once again the subcontinent was granted the honor of hosting the World Cup.  Sri Lanka was the team this time, defeating Australia in the final that was held in Lahore, Pakistan.

The 1999 World Cup was hosted by England after a long period of 16 years.  Australia marked its second victory, coming equal to the West Indians, who held the exclusive honor of winning the World Cup the most times (2).  The 2003 World Cup was organized in South Africa where once again Australia won, creating a new record of winning the World Cup the most times leaving behind West Indies.  As for the 2007 World Cup, it is hosted by the Carribean (West Indies) for the first time and is still going on.
