I was at work in a meeting. Then somebody came in to interrupt and turned on the TV. We were all floored. My children had a half day so I left for home and our city went into lock-down for a few hours.

I was at work in a health clinic in the UK. I had the radio on and couldn't believe what I was hearing. I kept running into my friend's office to tell her as the ghastly events unfolded.

"ghastly" indeed. What a good choice of words, harka.

My little girl's first birthday was the next day, so we were getting everything ready for her party when I saw the first tower fall on the news. I ran and picked her up and sat down with her while I finished watching in horror. Then I called my husband at work in tears because I didn't know what the future held for our nation.

I was a manager at the IRS, and we were at a conference with all the other managers in my division. We heard about the attack right after it happened. Being a government agency (on Long Island in New York) our superiors were concerned about our safety, and the conference was cancelled for the remainder of the day. We were saddened to learn that there had been an IRS district office in one of the towers, and some of our colleagues were lost that day. I'll never be able to forget it.

This must have been devastating for all of you. Seeing everything that happened on tv was bad enough for me so I can't imagine actually being there or to have friends/coworkers killed in this horrible tragedy.

I was in the 10th grade and I walked up to the teacher because she needed to talk to me about something and I had a seizure and I remember one of the office assistants crying and saying something about her brother working there or something I don't know I can't remember all of it because well when I have seizures I really don't remember a whole lot.

I was Taking my Daughter to her first day of first grade and I remember all the teachers trying to figure out how they were going to talk to the students and explain to them that they were safe. As soon as I got home is when the second tower was hit and all I could do was watch and cry.. It's like it was yesterday.

I had just lost the love of my life the day before. I had the TV on as a means of noise/comfort. Devastating news for humanity.

Strange timing, two years later on September 10, my father passed away.

I was drinking in a pub, because there is time difference between tokyo and new york, its night time in tokyo when event happening. When i saw the event on the tv i thought it was a scene from drama as its very noisy in the pub that u cant hear what the reporter saying. When I realize thats reality i am shocked, and all of a sudden, all the people in the pub looked at tv without any sound.

I was at work that morning, on the phone with a customer, when my husband, who was driving in to work, called to tell me. I thought he was kidding around because we hadn't heard anything yet. Then he held the phone up to the radio for me to listen. Absolutely Devastating, especially for a Jersey girl like me!

The rest of the day was a total haze. The wife of one of the men I worked with called with updates almost every hour, or every time something happened, to keep us informed.

One of my girlfriends works in Newark, NJ, and was at her desk when the planes hit; she watched the buildings go down.

My cousin's wife had just gotten off the ferry and was coming up the street to go to work when the first plane hit. Terrified, she turned and ran back toward the ferry. She was fortunate to have gotten out on the last ride that day.

It's been 6 years now and I'm finally beginning to be able to look at and appreciate the events of that day.

I don't think any of us will ever get over it though.

I was at work in Manhattan on my computer and listening to the radio, I could not believe what I was hearing, and thought initially the 1st plane had hit the empire state building, my office is close to it. When I informed my colleagues, everyone went back to work as usual, except that when the second plane hit, everyone knew this was more than an accident. I immediately called my son Anthony a new graduate May of 2001 from N.Y.P.D. Academy, I was so happy to know he was off that day, when I asked him where he was he said he was at his fiance's apartment, they were going to share a new apartment. I was relieved and asked him if he could stay home. He of course said "no mom I have to call in, I am needed". My heart sank, but at the same time I knew he was truly a brave young man. I left work and spent the next two days with my future daughter-in law at her apartment, waiting for him Anthony to walk to walk in the door. When he did come in, he was exhausted, and covered from head to toe in dust....... Now I am not a religious women, but i do believe in the power of prayer. So far he seems to be healthy, but everytime he gets a cold, or sinus infection, I think is the dust going to kill him. I thank God everyday for all that our family has, they now have one beautiful baby boy also called Anthony, almost 3 and another one on the way. They purchased a home and live in upstate new york now. I know I am blessed, and not a day goes by that I do not think about all of the heroes, including civilians that were injured or died. I still work in NYC and truly love New York. Please never never forget, and please contribute to those less fortunate, we are blessed as money is not an issue for us, but for many families it is. Yours, Myrta

I had just gotten up in the morning to get ready for work. My husband told me a plane had crashed into one of the twin towers. I came out to watch what had happened, and to our horror, we saw the second plane fly into the other tower. We watched in, almost disbelief, as to what was actually happening! Then it dawned on us that this was intentionally done! This is a day none of us will ever forget! But, I cannot even imagine how the people in NYC have dealt with this.

I was on my way to work after dropping off my children at the Christian school they attend. I was listening to the radio, when the broadcast interrupted the music. I raced back to the school to aide the administrator and staff in handling the children's questions and concerns. I stayed with the highschool children, we watched part of the news coverage and had discussions and prayer time.

For some, also, the moment of hearing of JFK's and MLK's and Bobby's assassinations - never to be forgotten.

Never watched TV in the morning - except 9/11/2001, watching for the weather forecast. Shot of the hole in the side of the tower, smoke billowing out moments after it happened. My God, what an awful accident! Watched as a plane flew into 2nd tower. My God, my God, why?

I was at home, a lovely Autumn day in the Midlands, UK. I'd actually just bought some shares that morning, which promptly plummeted in value over the following days and weeks. I remember hearing the confused reports on the news, where the newscasters weren't quite believing that both towers had been hit. Later that afternoon I was walking through town, and in a department store saw all the TVs lit up with footage of the burning towers. Unbelievable.

It's as clear as yesterday. I was at work and heard something about it and ran to the conference room to turn on the tv. Told others at work and we all just went to the conference room to watch. Called my husband, then my parents, then cried - I still do when I think about it. They finally just sent us all home because there was no one there going to do any work that day.

I was in school and didn't here about it until I got home later that day. When I walked in the door, I saw my aunts crying and praying about something on TV. When I looked at the TV they were rolling the footage on the first plane going into the towers. A few minutes later they showed it collapsing and all I could do was pray and hope that most of the people got out. Later I learned that a bunch of people had died right near the exit, and that a brave group of fire fighters had desperately tried to get as many of those people near the doors out and had died in the process. It is moments like that which will always stick in my mind and will never let me forget about 9-11.

I was at work, when all of a sudden, I noticed a lot of people going to the break room where he have a TV. I looked at the TV and saw the plane's back end that was plunged into one of the twin towers. Then I saw the second one hit. There was silence through all of this. Everyone in the break room had their mouths open in awe. We could not believe what we just saw on TV.

I was working a temp job during data entry which is so boring. I was allowed to listen to radio on head phones. I was listening to NPR when they broke in and said that one of the towers had been hit by a plane. I was in a high rise and we were soon evacuated outside the building until it could be determined that we were not under some enemy attack. All planes in the area were grounded. It was eerie not hearing or seeing any planes fly by our tower.
