I'm Pregnant And I've Heard The Baby's Head Will Be Misshapen When It's Born, Is This True?

It can be. A baby goes through quite a traumatic time in birth and the head can be pushed quite hard, this may alter it into an elongated shape, the forehead may appear short and the head may be lopsided. The effect only lasts a few hours and your baby's head should then return to a naturally rounded and more even shape. It is important you remember that this is all perfectly normal, a baby's head is very soft and is deliberately formed that way so that it can mould itself into a shape suitable for coming through the narrow birth canal safely. Another interesting fact is that a baby's head is very large for its body. It is proportionately 4 times bigger than an adult. A baby's skull is formed of separate plates of soft bones joined by tissue. There are six soft spots, which are the gaps between the bones of the head. The soft spots close up between 9 and 18 months.
