Yes, Bruce Willis's father was in the Military. In fact Bruce Willis was born in a military base, the 'Idar-Oberstein' American Military Base in Germany. David Willis was the name of his father who in 1957 got discharged from the Military.

His father then worked as a welder and a factory worker in order to support his family which consisted of his German wife Marlene Willis and four children.

Bruce Willis did not attend college after graduation. He followed the footsteps of his father and took up a blue collar job at the DuPont factory in Deepwater, New Jersey. After a personal tragedy at the factory, involving a friend, he left that job. He later turned to waiting tables and even turned bartender briefly, before being spotted and getting his break in Hollywood.
