Can I Use My Existing Router When I Switch To Another Broadband Provider?

Answer Question

Probably not unless you supplied the router yourself originally. To explain, most broadband providers supply routers/modems free to new customers. The catch is that the kit is locked to work only with the ISP that supplied it. Most of them can be re-programmed if you have the technical know how to do so.

If you bought your own router as part of a wires only broadband package, then chances are it will work with your new ISP. Refer back to the manual that was supplied with it for details on how to set up the router for your new broadband provider. Your new ISP will be able to supply you with all the settings you need to get up and running.

You should be aware, though, that in the event of you needing technical help, your new ISP is unlikely to be able to assist  unless  the old router is of the same type and model that they themselves provide to customers.

Yes you need to reconfigure your router and create new connection settings in order for you to connect.
