This library holds a massive 118 million items and has 500 miles of shelving! It currently holds the title in the Guinness Book of Records as the largest library in the world.

    The largest British library in the United Kingdom is situated in 19 buildings in London. It has a total of 2500 staff working there and contains over 18 million books. Stock increases involve over eight miles per year.

    The newspaper library at Colindale in North London opened in 1932 and has 583000 newspapers and an incredible 22 miles of shelving. The document supply centre in West York runs the largest inter-lending operation in the world. It handles over 3 millions requests from other libraries. The National Sound Archive holds one million disks and 65'000 hours of recorded tape.
