Snowdonia is an area of the north Wales and is a National Park, with a total area of 838 square miles. It was one of the first three National Parks in Wales; it was started in the year 1951.
The English name given to this area was derived from Snowdon, which is the uppermost mountain in Wales, with a total height of 1085 meters. In the welsh region it is known as the Eryri. It is believed that the name Eryri was inspired from eryr (“eagle”), but it actually means Highlands, as proved by foremost Welsh scholar Sir lfor William.
Around 26,000 people reside in the Park; out of these 62 per cent speak Welsh. Around six million people visit the park every year.
