How Can I Replace A Tub Spout?

I have a mixit valve in a shower/tub enclosure, with a tub spout that has a diverter. I removed the set screw from the tub spout, but it will not come off easily, and I cannot tell if it is a slip fit or what. When I try to turn it, the mix it valve also moves, so I'm afraid of breaking the diverter. What do I do?

If you loosened the set screw your gonna need to work the spout off. Try twisting it clockwise and counter to ease the pressure on the valve. You have to keep that up and pll at the same time until you get it. You probably won't break the valve which wasn't properly secured, if you do then welcome to the world of plumbing.
