What Are The Great Male Stage Roles In Western Theatre?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Like their female counterparts, one could name a hundred, but I'll name but a few here, I will mention only some of the finest roles for actors to play.  This is however, more difficult than the females as one in more spoiled for choice!

    Shakepeare's Hamlet
    Shakespeare's Lear
    Shakespeare's Titus

    Trigorin in Chekhov's The Seagull
Vanya or Mikhail the Doctor in Chekhov's Uncle Vanya
Eddie in Miller's The View from the Bridge
Willie Loman in Miller's Death of a Salesman

Ricky Roma in Glengarry Glen Ross
Cyrano in Edmond Rostand's Cyrano de Bergerac

Arturo Ui in the play of the same name by Bertolt Brecht

The role of Stockmann in Ibsen's The Enemy of the People (or Public Enemy depending on your translation).

Archie Rice from John Osborne's The Entertainer

Gene in Side Man by Warren Leight.

There are so many left, but all cannot be named here.
