Why not? The site began as a Q&A helpsite where people could ask questions and receive information, or answer questions. Points are an extra perk that shows one's participation in the site, and nothing more.
Hopefully, people will find their lives enriched by the sharing of information here. :)

When I first started visiting Blurtit, I looked at the questions a lot more than I have been lately. I mostly use the site now to check in with some of the friends I've made here and visit groups.
Even though the main focus is questions and answers, the site does offers different things such as the Debate and Group sections as well as connecting with friends via Shoutbox messages.
As far as the points aspect, I don't really pay very much attention to that.
