How Is It That The Same Side Of The Moon Always Faces Us?

Answer Question

    Greetings Locke !

You've almost cracked it with your comment !

By a strange coincidence, the moon takes virtually the same time to revolve once on its own axis as it does to complete an orbit of the Earth .  Thus for example when it has revolved 180 degrees on its axis, it has also completed half an orbit of the Earth. Result - we still see the same side and of course this goes for all points between.

Because us and the moon both spin.

I realize this, but wouldn't they have to be spinning at relative exact speeds, in the same direction, for this phenomena?
