1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Newfoundland is the name of a large island in the North Atlantic Ocean. It is known in French as Terre-Neuve, Talamh an Eisc in Irish and Terra Nova in Latin. It is located off the north-eastern coast of the continent of North America. It is also sometimes referred to as the Middle of the North Atlantic.

It is the most densely inhabited part of the Canadian region of Newfoundland and Labrador. In fact, the province was called Newfoundland until the year 2001. Since the year 2001, it has been renamed Newfoundland and Labrador. The island of Newfoundland has earned the sobriquet of the root cellar capital of the world.

The Newfoundland is also a breed of large dogs that are black in colour. These dogs are highly intelligent and are also excellent swimmers. They have a thick coarse coat. These dogs were developed on the island of Newfoundland and are used as a breed of working dogs in Canada.
