What Is Hardware Modem?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Hard modem is a device which is used for connecting internet on a computer. Two types of modems are used. Which are hardware and software modems. Hardware modem is a device which you must connect to the slot of your mother board before using. After connecting a modem you have to install its software (drivers) to use the modem. But software modem is not a device. it is  a software which you have to install in your computer before using.

You can use software modem on more than one pc at the same time. For example i have two computers and i want to connect internet but i don't have modem. So i can use a software modem. First i will install software modem on one computer and then to other. Similarly, i can use it in many computers and due to some reasons if windows fail then i can install software modem after installing new windows. On the other hand hardware modems do not provide these facilities. A hard ware modem can be used on a single computer at a time. If your modem fails to perform function then you have to buy a new modem. Due to the reasons I mentioned above, software modems are more popular than hardware modems.
