There are several units of force. The most common is F=MA, force=mass x acceleration due to gravity. The unit most commonly in use is the Newton which equals 1_kg x (1_m/1_second2).

Debossman's suggestion below is in error, Horsepower is a unit for a rate of doing work. Work is defined in physics as a force exerted though a distance. Therefore the rate of doing work is Horsepower.
