Is Frankincense Still Used Today?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Frankincense is very widely used today.  It is common to both Arabic and British/European cultures.
In the Arab world it is used as incense, particularly within the home to keep clothes smelling scented and as a means of purifying the air in the home, since temperatures may be very high.  Small cones of frankincense are a very common sight within Arabian souks.
It is also used in Europe particularly within the Roman Catholic Church, in burners which are carried before the priest (or in some cases by the priest).  The Anglican Church also use frankincense.
It has also enjoyed something of a revival due to the number of people in Europe who are interested in aromatherapy.  It is used to treat a variety of disorders, from colds and bronchial conditions, to nervous tension and cystitis.
Originally, when frankincense was offered to the baby Jesus, it is because it was considered as precious as gold: and today is still prized for its perfume.
