What Does Migration Mean?

Answer Question

4 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

Migration is basically the act of moving from one place to another. In ecological terms it is the act in which living organisms shift from one biome to another biome. For majority of the cases, migration occurs due to scarcity of food in that particular region. This generally happens at the time of winter. Another reason for migration may be to breed, especially in the case of fish.

Certain genus that migrate on a regular basis are referred to as migratory animals, those who do not undertake it periodically are referred to as resident animals.

Migration as an activity is very common with many bird species. The longest recorded migration of a bird is that of the Arctic Tern, which travels from the Arctic to the Antarctic and back annually.
