      DC could be 'direct current' in electricity (as opposed to 'alternating current')
      It could also be the District of Columbia (Washington, DC), or possibly:
      Originally 'National Allied Publications', DC Comics derived its trade name from its successful Detective Comics title (how's that sound - Detective Comics Comics?)
