The Morris-Jumel Mansion, 65 Jumel Terrace, at 160th St. Between St. Nicholas Ave. And Edgecombe Ave., in Manhattan, now a museum, builtĀ in 1765 is Manhattans oldest house. And yes, George Washington really did sleep there.

St Paul Chapel is considered to be the oldest building that is in use for public in New York City. It is a chapel of the Parish of Trinity Church. The building is situated on the land that was granted by Queen Anne and it was Andrew Gautier who served as a master craftsman for the building. The building was completed in the year 1766.

It was this building, which served as a place for refuge and rest for recovery workers after the terrorist's attack on the world trade centre on September 11, 2001, as the location of the building is quite close to the site. Even if it is quite close to the site of the attack, the building had not a single broken window after the attack. The fence that is around the church served as the main spot, for those who wanted to place impromptu memorials after the event.
