1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Tito is actually a variant of the name Titus. It means 'defender'. It is pronounced as Tee-toe. Similar baby names are Timo, Rito, Tino, Vito, Tait, Taitt, Tate and Titos.

Undoubtedly the most famous man with the surname Tito is Josef Broz Tito or Marshall Tito. He was not only the chief architect but also the President of Yugoslavia- which of course lasted only a couple of decades- that is from 1943 to 1991. He is best remembered from being the brain behind the anti-fascist resistance movement which was known as the Yugoslav Partisans. He was a prominent and active advocate of non- alignment along with Jawaharlal Nehru of India and Chou-en Lai of China. He died in Ljubljana on the 4th March 1980.
