There is no connection between reality and what we dream. When we dream the brain has its own way of taking things from our storage banks of memories and turning them into stories called dreams.You can't control or even guide what the next dream will be like. Frequently there will be something in our recent memory that will trigger a dream loosely based on that memory. As an example you might watch a murder mystery in the evening and dream that night about being shot or being a cop and catching the bad guy. Most dreams are just figments of our past thoughts and experiences and are just not worth trying to analyze. Sometimes two people sharing close experiences can share dreams that are very similar in nature.
