Absolutely. I spent 16 year's repairing older homes with the original mud plastered wall's and ceilings. Over the years many home's had additions put on, and it is usually done with Drywall, or Gypboard as you call it.Drywall was invented about 1957 as a quick way to build houses, it cut the cost and time of applying traditional plaster. What you need to do to prep your walls is apply a product called Sizing to it first . It goes on just like paint but you don't have to be very neat about it just as long as all of the paper surface is covered. You can buy this at any D.Y.I. Type store or a local paint and paper store. If you do not apply this first, when it comes time to remove the paper to paint the walls or repaper them you will find a huge and costly problem, namly, when the paper comes off it will take the paper surface of the wallboard with it essentially ruining the wall. Now you have a choice , rip out and replace the board? Or call an expensive repairman to fix it? Or spend 30 bucks and a few hours prepping the walls for paper. Also if you choose to paint in the future the sizing wont hurt anything. Good luck!
