    The Acropolis of Athens is in Athens in Greece. Greece has several different acropolises but The Acropolis of Athens is commonly called The Acropolis. Greece, Hellenic Republic is sited in southeastern Europe and is decked on the southern tip of Balkan Peninsula. Bulgaria, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Albania and Turkey surround Greece on the north and east. Greece faces the Aegean Sea to the east and Ionian Sea to the west. It is strategically placed at such a place where Europe, Asia and Africa come together.

    The Acropolis is a high city and is raised upto a height of 150 mts above sea level in Athens. It came to be called Cecropia after the Athenian King, Kekrops or Cecrops who was the first ruler. It is cushioned on the plain of Attica. There are steep cliffs on three of its sides. It leads to the hill of Aeropagus. It is made of blue-grey limestone. It is based schist-sandstone marl. Such natural construction leads to the formation of artesian springs and caves at the base of the hill.
