Alice, the American Series, hit television screens in the UK eight years after its initial release .i.e. in 1984. It was aired by C4 on a daily basis hence all the seasons got over within a span of approximately 2 years.
The sitcom 'Alice' was based on the Martin Scorsese movie 'Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore' (1974). It was first aired on American television sets in the August of 1976. It told the story of Alice, a widow who wishes to move to California to realize her dream as a singer, but instead she is forced to take up a job as a waitress in a restaurant called Mel's diner. Alice including other characters such as Mel, Flo, Vera and Belle became so popular with the audiences that the show continued to run in the United States for the next 9 years. Alice also became a source of inspiration for many of American women workers holding blue collar jobs.
