J.M. Barrie was an English writer who was born in 1860 and died in 1937. He was the man who created Peter Pan. J.M. Barrie was the runt of his family and he was extremely sensitive about his small stature. In school, the girls voted him "the sweetest smile" in the class, but none of the girls were attracted to the frail-looking boy. When no one was looking, J.M. Barrie would sneak off and scrawl his name along with a girl's name on the walls of the school. Many years later, when he was both rich and famous, he wrote, "Six feet and three inches.....If I had really grown to this it would have made a great difference in my life. I would not have bothered turning out reels of printed matter. My one aim would have been to become a favorite of the ladies which between you and me has always been my sorrowful ambition. The things I could have said to them if my legs had been longer. Read that with a bitter cry." J.M Barrie's adult height was barely five feet.
