Who Is Samuel Alito?

    Samuel Alito was born on April 1, 1950 and is the Junior Justice of the United States Supreme Court. He was nominated by President George Bush on October 31, 2005 to replace Sandra Day O'Connor. He is the second Italian-American to serve on the United States Supreme Court.

    He received his college education and degree from Princeton and Yale University and has had a very successful political career. Samuel Alito held the post as a United States attorney and a judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit prior to joining the Supreme Court in 2005.

    He also worked under the Ronald Regan administration as well. Samuel Alito obtained a job in the Reagan administration's Department of Justice, first in the office of the Solicitor General (1981-85), an d then in the office of the Attorney General. From 1987 until 1990 he served as the U.S. Attorney in New Jersey.
