What Does Humidity Mean?

6 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

    The term 'Humidity' refers to the quantity of water vapor that is in the air at a given moment. There are three different ways to measure humidity, these are;
    Absolute Humidity:- This refers to the mass of water in a particular volume of air. Absolute humidity is expressed as the number of Kilograms of water vapor per cubic meter of air.
    Relative Humidity:- Relative humidity is the term used to describe the quantity of water vapor that exists in a gaseous mix of air and water. Relative humidity is expressed as a percentage.
    Specific Humidity:- Specific Humidity is the ratio of water vapor to dry air in a particular volume of air. Specific Humidity is expressed as a ratio of Kilograms of water vapor to Kilograms of air

    Generally speaking, Humid air is lighter and less dense than dry air, this is due to the fact that the a molecule of water weighs less than a molecule of Nitrogen or Oxygen. Under conditions of high humidity it can become increasingly difficult for the human body to maintain a suitable temperature. This is beacuse the evaporation of sweat from the body's skin is decreased.
